Paying debts – Filipinos has this superstition that if one will pay-off all his or her debts before New Years eve, he or she will be debt free for the whole year next year.

12 Round Fruit variant – another belief that many Filipinos practice on New Year ’s Eve is to prepare 12 round fruit on the table for a fruitful year ahead. Some even have 13 variants.

If you will see jeepney all over the place, you are of no doubt in the Philippines. The Philippines has the Jeepney as their means for transportation and is one of the distinguishing items of the country particularly its capital city, Manila. Even though, there are some taxicabs roaming around, many of the Filipinos still opt to ride in a Jeepney, for it cost them lesser than riding a taxicab. Jeepneys in the Philippines are historically made from leftovers of the US military jeeps used during the World War II. Today, Jeepney is still the main mode of transportation in the Philippines alongside with any other transpiration modes like railways, taxicabs, and buses.

Filipinos are known of being helpful to their fellowmen. The Bayanihan is a proof for that. During Bayanihan, neighbors will all work hand in hand to help one neighbor in need. One great example of it is when one need to move out, neighbors do help the clearing of the old house or cleaning the new house so the family can move in easily. As payment, the family will now have some small gatherings for the helping neighbors to celebrate. Work done can sometimes be for the community like roads, drainage, and the like. The sad part of it is Bayanihan has started to fade these days. Most of the young Filipinos now ask for payment even for a very small work done.

We all know that the Moriones Festival is originally done in the island of Marinduque, Philippines. However, Oriental Mindoro also has its own version of the said Festival, which is happening along with the observation of the Lenten Season. In Oriental Mindoro, every Branggay has its own amount of Reward price awarding those who have the catchiest costume and mask maybe or those who were able to show that they are a great soldier and can protect their countrymen, just like the Roman Soldiers whom their personas are being inspired from. The festival also serves as tourist’s attraction for the Morions stayed along the street during the entire Holy Week Celebration. On Easter Sunday, they will have their highlight called “PUGUTAN” wherein a person called “LONGHINO” will be captured and beheaded.

Kakanin is the term used for Filipino native delicacies. Mostly of these foods, include banana, rice, sticky rice or glutinous rice, and coconut milk to name a few in their ingredients. To give you good example of kakanin is the PALITAW. This Filipino native delicacy is made of ground glutinous rice with a little amount of water to form a dough-like mixture. One should then boil exact amount of water and dip in mixture until cook. True to its name, PALITAW floats or “LITAW” in Filipino onced cooked. The floating PALITAW will then be removed from the boiling water and coat it with crated coconut.

Bringing a Pasalubong is a long been practice of the Filipinos. When a family member comes home from abroad or even just from another region of the Philippines, they are always expected to bring a pasalubong for those who are left home. Generally, a pasalubong are those that are not commonly available at the recipient’s place or a specialty of the place visited. One great example is when a family member from Davao visited Manila, they will bring home a box of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. On the other way around, when a family member from Manila visited Davao, they will bring home a Durian fruit or Durian candies as Pasalubong.

Tumbang preso, presohan, tumba-patis, tumba lata or whatever they call it is a traditional Filipino street game that has started to vanish these days with the presence of modern technology gadgets like playstation, PSP, computer and the like. Rules on this traditional Filipino street game includes a:
•	Taya
•	Players
•	a tin can (enclosed in a circular line)
•	PAMATO (slipper)
•	Boundary line
The game starts as the players stand near the tin can and throw their PAMATO to the line. The player with a PAMATO that landed far most is the TAYA. The TAYA will take the responsibility of the Tin Can as other players tries to hit it with their “PAMATO” and must see to it that the tin can is in its upright position so he or she can run after the player who is on his way back to the boundary line with his or her PAMATO. Once caught, that player will be the next TAYA.

Pagmamano or hand kissing or placing an elderly’s hand on the forehead along while uttering the words “MANO PO” is still a strong culture to Filipinos worldwide. Young individual show their respect to an elderly through “Pagmamano” as they greet them when they arrive home, after a prayer, after the mass and more. On the other hand, hand kissing was also once a practice by Filipino men to show their respect to women. However, this is already rarely done these days, as more and more young individuals are adopting the modern practice and find kissing a lady’s hand a thing of yesterday.
